10 Movies From Sandra Bullock That I Like
One thing I love about Sandra Bullock is that she could be your next door neighbor. I really get the feeling that she would fit today in a middle class neighborhood. That girl-next-door quality. She is not over the top like a lot of those playing comedy roles. She can be serious when needed. Her movies are immensely easy to watch, and are entertaining as well. Usually, by this time in their careers, actresses are self-destructing, or picking roles to go to extremes to impress other actors. She has not had to do that. Good for her.
Sorry Guys and Gals, I have not seen “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” yet. As soon as I do, I will probably add it to this list. Yes, I know it is up for several Oscars. Just been super busy.

Here are 10 of the Sandra Bullock Movies that I enjoy most.
The Blind Side
Man, what can I say? This is an inspiring true story that shows there are some folks in the world that will reach outside their comfortable circumstances to help others. This is the story is a real life story about a fellow from the ghettos being taken in a by a well-to-do family. He excels, the family grows closer, and the fact it is a true story just adds that much extra punch emotionally. We can use a lot more of that spirit. The Academy Award nomination was well deserved.
28 Days
What do you do when you are addicted, but not willing to face what is controlling you? She plays a realistic person with a realistic problem who has to “own” her problem to conquer it. The story is about a newspaper columnist that has to go to rehab, has issues with the treatment, and then finds herself. She realizes that she need help to get over her addictions. Great movie.
The Net
Yes, I know that it is old. It is so old that I forgot how old it actually is. I really enjoyed this movie when it first came out. So, everything in the world is tied together with computers. You almost cannot go to the restroom without a computer noticing, and having the potential to control you. It would be very interesting to now watch it, and compare the reality of the internet to the futuristic “Net” in the movie. This was before she became the uber star that she is now. It was a great performance, even though it was 15 years ago.
Miss Congeniality
Remember that I said she did not go overboard? Well, she sort of does here. It really fits the character of the movie, though. An undercover super hard charger of an FBI agent has to team up with a “fuffy” beauty pageant consultant to expose beauty pageant fraud. She discovers her softer side, and gets the criminals. This is one that I can watch every year without getting bored.
The Proposal
This is a conniving, scheming Sandra Bullock, in a nice way. She is a powerful Canadian that wants to stay in the US, but cannot. So, she cooks up a scheme to pretend that she is getting married to one of her subordinates (Ryan Reynolds). Hilarity ensues when he takes her home to mom. You already know what is going to happen, but you enjoy watching it develop.
While You Were Sleeping
This is a light hearted comedy with a lot of “feel good” elements. No problems here. I am all for that kind of movie. The subject matter is her finding love with the brother of the comatose man she originally thought she was in love with. Doesn’t sound like a good movie, does it? But it is, so put this on your “snuggle with your wife (or husband)” list.
Infamous
A different movie for Sandra in that she is playing a serious supporting role. This is the sort of role that I imagine Nicole Kidman playing. Anyway, the story is centered around Truman Capote, the author, as he researches a story on murder. Sandra Bullock plays as another author, his closest friend. There was controversy at the time the movie was released as another movie on the same subject was released at the same time. Generally, it is acknowledged that this is the better of the two. Well, of course, Sandra is in it!
Murder By Numbers
This is a good detective yarn. Sandra is investigating a murder in this one. She is attempting to get all the little clues together, and gets the feeling that something seems familiar. She has her own past that she is now forced to revisit… I like movies with a twist, and this one does not disappoint.
Premonition
I would not call Sandra “skittish”, but this movie really puts her on edge. She gets premonitions that her husband is dying, but yet he is alive and unhurt. The visions continue. She ends up in a desperate struggle to sort destiny from reality while safeguarding her family. Romantic comedy? Ehhh, no.
crash
This is a good movie about exposing your preconceived notions and confronting reality. A dozen residents of Los Angeles get entwined in a series of events that expose the racist that everyone hides just under the surface. Sandra plays a well-to-do lady is stuck in the middle of this mess. Raw in spots, it will make you think about your hidden prejudices. Not holiday fair, but powerful, none the less.
I skipped a few that many others have in their top ten. These, I thought, were her best works, and they showed her true range as an actress. Consider the nature of each movie, match it with a proper setting, and enjoy.
